Imbali Empowerment is a female-led, registered Non-Profit Company founded in 2024 by a certified doula and a gynaecologist/obstetrician. Based in Pretoria, South Africa, the organisation is led by qualified female medical practitioners with a shared vision: to create medically accurate, empowering, and accessible educational resources that help girls and women better understand their bodies, health, and sexuality.
In addition to education, Imbali Empowerment is committed to producing high-quality, non-toxic, affordable and environmentally friendly menstrual products that promote dignity, safety and accessibility. For many girls and women, menstruation is not only a physical experience but also a significant social and economic challenge. The lack of safe and reliable products often prevents them from attending school or work, with long-term consequences for education, career opportunities and overall well-being.
We also recognise the vital role of herbal medicine and natural supplements, which have been scientifically shown to alleviate symptoms linked to hormonal changes during menstruation, pregnancy and menopause. Through our expertise, we aim to make these remedies accessible, reducing discomfort and supporting women to live healthier, fuller lives.
Women’s health and sexuality remain underrepresented in media, research and society at large. At Imbali Empowerment, we believe women should be encouraged to recognise the strength of their bodies, understand their symptoms and take them seriously. In a world where women take on so much responsibility for everyone, they tend to forget to care for themselves.
The name “Imbali Empowerment” is inspired by the Zulu word Imbali, meaning “flower,” symbolising the beauty, strength, and value of womanhood. It reflects our commitment to nurturing and uplifting young girls and women, particularly those with limited access to essential resources. Imbali Empowerment is more than an organisation – it is a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space grounded in love for the feminine. Our mission is to listen to the realities of African women and girls and to provide tangible, culturally sensitive solutions. We believe that by empowering women to live healthier and stronger lives, we contribute to building healthier families, communities, and societies.
